If you’ve ever mentioned boric acid suppositories around the wrong person, you’ve probably heard some version of this:
“Boric acid?! Isn’t that what they use to kill roaches?”
And technically, boric acid is an ingredient used in some pest control products.
But that doesn’t mean a product designed to kill roaches belongs anywhere near your vagina, and it definitely doesn’t mean every product containing boric acid is the same.
Let’s clear this up.
Yes, Boric Acid Has More Than One Use
Boric acid is a chemical compound that has been used for many different purposes.
One of those uses is pest control.
Another established use is in specially formulated vaginal suppositories, particularly in certain situations involving recurrent vaginal yeast infections and some cases of recurrent bacterial vaginosis (BV).
That sounds strange until you realize the same ingredient can have completely different applications depending on its purity, concentration, formulation, manufacturing standards and intended use.
Think about alcohol.
There’s alcohol formulated for beverages. There’s rubbing alcohol. There’s alcohol used in cosmetics and sanitizers.
You wouldn’t drink rubbing alcohol just because they both have “alcohol” in the name.
The intended product matters.
Roach Powder Does Not Belong in Your Vagina 🚫
This part needs to be extremely clear.
Never use boric acid insecticide, roach powder, pesticide products, household boric acid products or industrial products vaginally.
A product sold for pest control was not manufactured, packaged or tested for vaginal use. It may also contain other ingredients that are completely inappropriate for intimate use.
When we talk about vaginal boric acid, we’re talking about boric acid specifically manufactured and formulated into a product intended for vaginal use.
That distinction matters.
So Why Is Boric Acid Used Vaginally?
The vagina naturally maintains an acidic environment.
When that environment becomes disrupted, unwanted organisms can sometimes thrive.
Boric acid has properties that have made it useful as an intravaginal treatment option in certain recurrent or difficult to treat vaginal conditions.
For example, medical guidance recognizes vaginal boric acid as an option in certain cases of recurrent or non-albicans vulvovaginal candidiasis. It has also been studied and used as part of some treatment approaches for recurrent BV.
But here’s something social media sometimes leaves out:
Boric acid isn’t automatically the answer to every vaginal symptom.
Odor, itching, unusual discharge or irritation can have different causes. BV and yeast infections aren’t the only possibilities, and repeatedly treating yourself without knowing what’s going on can delay the right diagnosis.
“But If It Kills Roaches, How Can It Be Safe?”
Because whether an ingredient is appropriate depends on things like dose, route of exposure, formulation, purity and intended use.
This is also why vaginal boric acid should never be swallowed.
A vaginal suppository is designed for vaginal use only. Keep boric acid products away from children and pets, follow the product directions and speak with a healthcare professional when symptoms are severe, persistent, recurrent or uncertain.
Pregnancy is another important consideration. Do not self treat with vaginal boric acid during pregnancy unless your healthcare professional specifically recommends an appropriate treatment.
Where FemmeGlory Fits In 🌸
At FemmeGlory, we believe feminine care shouldn’t just be about selling women another product.
It should also be about helping women understand what they’re using, why they’re using it and when they may need professional care instead.
FemmeGlory Boric Acid Suppositories
Our FemmeGlory Boric Acid Suppositories are made specifically for vaginal use, not pest control.
We use medical grade boric acid and vegan capsules to create a suppository specifically formulated for its intended vaginal use.
The vegan capsule provides a plant based delivery option and is designed to dissolve after vaginal insertion, releasing the boric acid where it is intended to be used.
This is an important distinction.
The boric acid used in a properly manufactured vaginal suppository should not be confused with household boric acid, industrial boric acid or pesticide products simply because they share the words “boric acid.”
Never substitute household or pest control boric acid for a vaginal product.
FemmeGlory pH Test Strips
Before assuming every change means BV or yeast, understanding your vaginal pH can give you another piece of information about what’s happening.
Our FemmeGlory pH Test Strips are designed to help women become more familiar with their vaginal environment.
A pH test isn’t a diagnosis, though. An abnormal result or persistent symptoms may still require medical evaluation.
FemmeGlory Women’s Probiotic
Vaginal wellness isn’t only about what you use when something feels wrong.
Our Women’s Probiotic is designed to support the vaginal and urinary microbiome as part of an everyday wellness routine.
It’s about supporting balance, not claiming that a supplement replaces medical treatment.
FemmeGlory Feminine Wash
And yes, the vagina cleans itself.
You don’t need to wash inside the vaginal canal.
Our feminine wash is intended for the external intimate area, the vulva, as part of normal hygiene. It isn’t meant to douche, cleanse inside the vagina or sterilize your natural microbiome.
The Bigger Conversation
Women deserve better conversations about vaginal health than:
“Natural means safe.”
or
“Chemical means dangerous.”
or even:
“They put that in roach killer, so it can’t belong in feminine care.”
Science is more nuanced than that.
An ingredient’s name alone doesn’t tell you whether a particular product is appropriate. You need to consider the formulation, purity, dose, route of administration and intended use.
So the next time someone says:
“Boric acid is for roaches, not vaginas.”
You can tell them:
Roach killer is for roaches.
Vaginal boric acid suppositories are a completely different product formulated for a completely different purpose.
And those two things should never be confused.
